Major launches in the first half of 2021, Toyota Corolla Cross and Volkswagen Taos are already starting to show up on the streets and also be publicized by brands on the networks.
Toyota’s average SUV will be manufactured in Piracicaba (SP) and will hit stores in March. VW’s rival will be produced at the Pacheco plant in Argentina and exported to Brazil.
However, based on the data and figures already released for the two products, in addition to findings from the Cars, it is possible to make a first comparison between them and help you to solve some doubts.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is 4.46 meters long, 1.82 m wide and 1.62 m tall. The wheelbase is 2.64 m and the trunk, like the UOL Cars anticipated, will be 440 liters because it will come with spare tire – item that the Thai version does not have. The fuel tank must maintain the same size as the Hybrid sedan model: 43 liters.
In the case of the Volkswagen Taos, the measures are 4.46 m long, 1.84 m wide and 1.62 m high. The 2.68 m wheelbase and the 498-liter trunk exceed that of the Corolla. This Taos wheelbase is the same found on Jetta’s MQB platform. For the VW SUV, the tank is 51 liters.
The Toyota Corolla Cross will serve a wider audience in this regard. It will offer the flexible 2.0 up to 177 hp and 21.4 mkgf for the entry versions. The most expensive will come with the hybrid set, which combines the 1.8 flexible engine of up to 101 hp and 14.5 mkgf with a 72 hp and 16.6 mkgf electric. The combination yields 122 hp. The exchange, in this case, is the automatic type CVT and the transeixo (hybrid) that works like a CVT. The traction is front.
Taos, for the time being, is betting on the “VW audience champion. conventional six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
Toyota will bet on four versions for the Corolla Cross: XR, XRE, XRV and XRX. The first two will have the 2.0 and the others with hybrid set. The wheels are 17 and 18 inches for the available variants.
In addition, there will be a special launch version with some items that will be sold as accessories after launch, such as the induction phone charger and an exclusive color.
Volkswagen already works with a leaner range. There will only be two options, as with Nivus: Comfortline and Highline. In this case, the wheels are always 18 “inches, but with a different finish.
Like the rival of the Japanese brand and the smaller brother Nivus, Taos will feature a special launch series, called the Launching Edition. In it, the wheels have a different finish, an exclusive painting with a biton combination with black roof and rear view mirror cover.
Both models will have a multitude of equipment available, each with its own particularities. Toyota will offer the active and passive safety package, but for now, only in hybrid versions. This means adaptive speed control with autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beam, blind spot and cross rear traffic alert and lane maintenance assistant.
For the Taos, there is autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive speed control (ACC) with Stop ‘n Go function, automatic high beam with IQ Light technology, virtual instrument panel, cross traffic alert, point alert blind and customizable lighting in ten colors.
The multimedia center is the VW Play, which has an internal HD and allows you to use applications directly installed on it and all USB inputs are type C, which charges faster and transmits data more quickly.
