Premier League | Arsenal lost new points in the battle for a European place

Arsenal started well, but it was an incompetent captain who came into focus again when the London club went on a new points loss.

Burnley-Arsenal 1-1

Martin Ødegaard started the match for Arsenal, and it was the guests who got off to the best start when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 10th goal of the season.

Just before the break, however, it was Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka who should get all the attention. When he tried to find David Luiz within his own penalty area, but ended up playing the ball in Chris Wood and in goal.

The absurd involvement made the teams end up sharing the points on Turf Moor.

– Something is bad luck and something is incompetence, but here Xhaka comes into focus again. Terribly. What are you doing ?, said TV2’s commentator Kasper Wikestad after the huge problem.

Early management

Arsenal started best, and already after six minutes the ball was in the net behind Nick Pope.

Willian led the ball into Burnley’s half of the field and found Aubameyang on the left. The goal machine from Gabon pulled into the field and knocked the ball into the nearest corner, which at first glance looked like an affordable end to the hosts’ last defense.

The guests from London continued the big game, and again it was Aubameyang who stood the chance after an excellent ball from Thomas Partey. Matthew Lowton got a foot on the ball and that was enough to stop Aubameyang’s second for the day.

Shortly afterwards, the match’s only goal scorer was to take on the responsibility as a waiter when he played through the prodigy Bukayo Saka, but the 19-year-old’s finish went just aside for goal.

Half an hour into the match, Ødegaard’s first highlight came when he found Partey out in the field with a playful pass, but the shot from Arsenal’s midfield anchor went several meters over goal.

– That is a brilliant set by Ødegaard, it came from TV2’s Kasper Wikestad after the chance.

But then the curtain went down completely for Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka. The visitors were pushed back into the field, and then Xhaka decided to resolve the situation in his own penalty area.

Passing against Luiz rather hit Burnley’s Chris Wood and rolled into the open cage, past a confused Bernd Leno.

– Something is bad luck and something is incompetence, but here Xhaka comes into focus again. Terribly. What are you doing ?, Wikestad said after the huge blemish and 1-1 at the break.

Ødegaard replaced

After the break, it was a 22-year-old from Drammen who was to get the first chance, but the attempt from a distance was stopped by Nick Pope.

Ødegaard was eventually replaced by Alexandre Lacazette, after delivering an excellent match in midfield for Arsenal.

Burnley came close to extending the visitors’ lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but he lifted the ball over Erik Pieters and it was a little too high and hit the bar. Shortly afterwards, it was Wood who got the opportunity, and it was much bigger.

The post was perfect and the race in front of goal was also good from the power point, but the shot was brilliantly saved by Arsenal’s last defense.

– How he does not score there is a big question. Leno will only be hit by the shot, TV2’s Wikestad said after the miss.

Convicted penalty and red card – WAS jumped in

With five minutes left on the clock, there was a circus on Turf Moor when Erik Pieters blocked a finish from Nicolas Pépé, and was awarded a red card and a penalty.

The pictures afterwards, however, showed that he had never used his arm, but the shoulder, in the block and the decision was changed after VAR had looked at the situation.

The match ended 1-1 after an insane chance bonanza for Arsenal in the last seconds of the match, but a post hit was what Arsenal managed.
